During this panel, Grandmothers from different First Nation, Métis and Inuit communities will speak to the traditional roles and responsibilities of women as leaders, community members, life givers and water carriers. They will touch on the importance of caring for oneself when doing the work of the people to take care of our communities.
Following the viewing of a video featuring Chief June Black from August 15, 2024, addressing Nishnawbe Aski Nation representatives, this panel will spotlight the critical work that is being carried out in communities and the leadership roles Indigenous women are embracing to champion this work. Panelists will share strategies and offer practical solutions to address pressing challenges facing Indigenous women and their communities.
Join us as we launch our new movement “They are Happening” geared for celebrating and honouring the leadership and initiative of today’s Indigenous youth. Where we will explore and dive into the “Ripples of Change” that are making motions across Turtle Island, driven by youth initiatives, youth power and youth voice. Youth are changing the script by including culture and tradition into this modern-day way of continuing on the legacy of creating safer spaces for Indigenous women.
We wish everyone safe travels!
